Proper quilt preparation will save you time and money. By following the guidelines below, you can avoid time delay and additional charges.
Press your quilt top, including all seam allowances in the appropriate direction. If your background fabric is white, make sure the seam allowances do not show through the front of the white fabric.
Be sure all seams are back-stitched. Seams that are not backstitched will pull separate when stretched to longarm quilt.
If you have a preference for the top of the quilt or backing, please place a safety pin to a piece of paper and position it to indicate the top center of your quilt.
Clip all loose threads from front of quilt and back. Be sure to pick off any cut threads or they may get sandwiched between the front and batting and show through the top of the quilt.
Note that all fullness and puckers that have been pieced in, can not be quilted out. Embellishments such as buttons and ribbons should be attached after quilting.
Quilt Backing and Batting
If you have a preference for the top of the backing, please place a safety pin to a piece of paper and position it to indicate the top center of the backing. If you have a pieced backing and want us to center the quilt top on your designed pieced backing, we will do our best to center the quilt, but cannot guarantee 100% accuracy due to shifting in the quilting process and the straightness of your quilt and/or back piecing.
Square up the backing fabric, or we will have to charge you to do it. Press your backing. If your batting is rolled or folded, please lay it out flat on the bed to "RELAX" the folds and creases.
Your backing AND batting must be 4" larger than your quilt top on all four sides. (For example, if your quilt top is 80" x 80", your backing and batting must be 88" x 88" (which is a four inch allowance on all sides of your 80" quilt top).
If you are seaming your backing, remove all selvages within the seam allowances, as they will pucker when washed and will distort your backing or quilt.
Additional charges may apply as noted:
If your quilt requires preparation upon its arrival, the following charges will apply: Clip loose threads $10-$20 Square backing $10 Pressing $10-$20 depending on size Piecing backing $10 per seam Repair (open seams) Price determined on quantity and time Pricing Meandering - edge to edge and other designs are $.02 per square inch (multiple the length times the width of your quilt and multiply by $ .02) Minimum charge is $45.00 More intricate designs start at $ .025 to $ .04 per square inch.
